Wow, it's hot! Well, of course, there is nothing better than swimming for your high energy child, but what if you can't get to a pool or a beach. Slip and slide is always fun and running in the sprinklers, but I bet you thought of that. So, this may be the time for an afternoon movie at the theater or at home...but, I bet you thought of that too. How about indoor water play? Grab your tablet and some safe water proof kitchen tools ie: funnel, slotted spoons, colander, plastic pitcher, cups, straws, pots, pans, etc, etc, etc. throw them all in a cool bathtub and next in...your kid. Now your he/she is cooling off, having fun, and you can get some work done on your tablet...or better yet, throw on your swim suits and get right in too. Don't forget your bubble wand! A little music would be nice...don't forget to check out my music for kid's or yourself. Click here.

Nothing like the outdoors for your high energy kid. Hiking can be designed for any age. It doesn't have to be difficult or costly to be fun for kids. Just a stroll into the woods with a modest picnic while your child has the freedom to climb trees, play with water by a creekside or scramble boulders.
When your child doesn't feel contained, you will be surprised by his or her ability to entertain themselves with sticks, rocks, dirt or flowing water.
Go ahead, tie a big rope to a tree for swinging, scatter per purchased crystals or unique rocks when your child is not looking and then have a hunt for them. Stack them, paint them, build a dam with them, skip them....let your child get creative.
Aside from the obvious, (water, sun screen, bug spray), bring a pail for dirt or water, something to catch and release bugs. A hammock would be nice. :)
Remember, getting dirty is half the fun. Oh, and if you have a dog, bring him/her along...Max would approve.
First attempts at songwriting with kids can be just that....first attempts. Songs don't necessarily have to rhyme or they can utilize faux rhymes as "blog with dog". Songs can be written using traditional melodies that kids already know. Writing builds confidence and if you write with your child about an issue that needs working on, it becomes a great way to communicate and get your point across while having fun.
For example, to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb:
Jordan has some math to do
Math to do
Math to do
Jordan has some math to do
Before we take a walk
This example lets Jordon know what is on the agenda and gives him/her something to look forward to when her/his work is finished.
As you write songs with your child you can gradually make songs more sophisticated or not. Just have fun with the process and you can have the song in your back pocket for next time homework needs to get done. Go ahead and give it a try.
